Dear Colleagues,
The Romanian National Society of Infectious Diseases, has organized the First National Conference of Tropical Diseases and Travel Medicine between 4 - 5 November, 2011.
The Clinic of Infectious and Tropical Diseases "Dr. Victor Babes" has developed didactic, scientific, clinical and prophylactic activity in the domain of tropical diseases in international organizations (WHO - TDR) and the European Council of Medicine and Tropical Hygiene Schools and Institutes ever since 1977. Cases of visceral leishmaniasis, filariasis, schistosomiasis have been added lately to the already existing practice in imported tropical diseases, such as malaria, amoebiasis, cholera, enriching the experience of our clinicians and laboratory physicians. At the same time, the increasing number of travelers in different tropical areas and the climatic changes have led to the possibility of the adapting / readapting of the vectors of some severe diseases in Europe, such as haemorragic fevers (Dengue or Chikungunya), which determined an increased degree of attention offered to this domain of tropical diseases and travel medicine.
This reality have imposed the necessity of a new approach of the International Sanitary Regulations (ISR - WHO 2005).
The organization of the First National Conference of Tropical Diseases and Travel Medicine with International Participation is a result of the development of the global situation and is a natural completion of our activity in the domain of acute infections diseases. Participation of international experts has increased value of scientific information.
We thank the participants for their contribution to the success of the conference.
Yours respectfully,
Prof. Dr. Emanoil Ceausu
Executive Vicepresident of the Romanian National Society of Infectious Diseases.
